Title

Black Lives Matter Garage Mural

Coverage

Minneapolis, MN, The United States of America

Description

Private residence parking garage door with stylized text reading “Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. See, respect, treasure and protect Black lives.” Philo is written on the slant of the ‘s’ in ‘lives’.
The first sentence is a quote sometimes attributed to Philo of Alexandria, hence the name Philo in the mural. However, this quote has sometimes been attributed to Plato and Socrates as well. In fact, it is most likely a quote from Rev. Dr. John Watson who wrote under the pen name Ian Maclaren in the late 19th century. The second sentence seems to be an addition by the artist to emphasis the importance to be kind to all people and especially Black lives.
