Project 30.1 is a mural located in Hudson, WI, exactly 30.1 miles away from the site where George Floyd was killed by police. Hudson is a small town of about 13,000 residents, nearly all of whom are White. It serves as a "bedroom community" for the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN. The mural was conceived by a local artist and features panels from seven other artists, as well as hundreds of diverse faces painted by community members. The project was completed over the course of six months in 2020. According to the sign posted with the mural, "Project 30.1 is more than a mural. It is a vision, a promise we are making to realize and relate the idea that "our community" is not just our small town. Our community is all life, near and far. The mural is a visual reminder of an active and ongoing commitment to ensure that all of humanity have equality, respect, justice, peace, life. Project 30.1 is a Call to Action. It does not end with the installation of the mural. It is only the beginning."
