From the artist: "Muralist, Aryn Lill, created "Be The Change" on Monday, June 8th on The Rainbow Building in Uptown, Minneapolis at 2922 Hennepin Ave South. The quote is taken from Mahatma Gandhi (2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948), who led India's nationwide campaigns for easing poverty, expanding women's rights, building religious and ethnic amity, ending untouchability, and above all for achieving Swaraj or self-rule. Gandhi was a big inspiration to Martin Luther King Jr., who led nonviolent protests during the civil rights movement. The three birds symbolize the African Americans that have died at the hands of the Minneapolis Police, those include: George Floyd, Jamar Clark, David Smith, and Christopher Burns. It's also a reference to a well known Bob Marley song titled "Three Little Birds". The song's chorus sings, "Don't worry about a thing, 'cause every little thing is gonna be alright." This message, be the change and make everything alright, is what the Twin Cities needs to heal and start anew in a world filled with social injustices. We must all come together to fight for the rights of African Americans who have experienced systemic racism for far too long."

The upper left portion of the mural has "Sankofa" written out in multi colored letters, the sun's rays, and a blue bird with a red swirl and red feather mane looking back with an orb or egg near it's beak. The blue and red Sankofa bird in this mural has red hand prints on its neck.

The middle of the mural has a red heart symbol with a golden aura and red dotted lines emanating from it going to the four corners of the mural, also referencing Sankofa. There is also a yellow light/sun above the heart with a blue swirl in the center. The light radiates yellow tendrils to both the left and right portions of the mural. It is possible this sun with the swirl is the Adinka symbol Owia Kokroko--or greatness of the sun (vitality and strength).

The upper right portion of the mural is a collage of newspaper clippings pertaining to George Floyd, activism, street art, and protests.

The bottom right portion of the mural is another Sankofa bird.
