1300 protestors and been arrested in cities around the country.]]> 2023-07-01]]> 2023-05-28]]> 2022-04-15]]> "On January 24, 2022, Moise Kabagambe, a Congolese immigrant, was brutally murdered at the kiosk where he worked on Tijuca beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After requesting his daily payment, a total of 200 reais ($38 USD), Moise was beaten to death by three men. According to the police investigation it is possible that even more people were involved in his murder.

The murder of Moise Kabagambe highlights the xenophobic, violent, precarious work conditions and racial hatred suffered by thousands of African immigrants. Such conditions have dramatically increased in Brazil with the rise of the extreme right. Whether workers or students, those who seek refuge for better living conditions in Brazil face anti-Black violence daily.

This reality represents a long, continuous history of racial violence. In Brazil, according to 2019 data, 77% of homicide victims are Black, including the Afro-Brazilian population, Black immigrants from Haiti and the African continent. The chance of a Black person being murdered in Brazil, according to the atlas of violence in the country, is almost 3 times greater than a white person."
