Power To The Police Street Mural, Detroit, MI
Power To The People is painted in red, black, and white on the pavement. The "O" in Power is painted in red.
Detroit’s mural was planned, financed, designed, and created within one week, said Rochelle Riley, Director of Arts and Culture for the City of Detroit. The nonprofit Detroit Heals Detroit, which helps youth deal with trauma, approached Riley about creating a Black Lives Matter mural like other cities. Ten students from the group along with 10 other Detroit Public School students agreed to be judges on what the art should look like as well as select what artist would design the work.
The mural is funded by the Knight Foundation, Bedrock, Motor City Paint and Eastern Market Corp., Murals in the Market, General Motors, Mint Artist Guild and University Prep.

"People Have The Power" | Bringing Back Bowery
A wash of white paint covers the majority of a plywood plank. A figure with green skin and short hair that blends with its facial stubble serves as the focal point of the mural. The figure is a cyclops, with a large, single eye with a blue iris, long orange nose, large pink lips, and yellow cheeks. In the upper right corner, on a yellow background, black lettering announces to the viewer: "People Have The Power".
The artist deliberately leaves two posters attached to the plywood visible: "Missing Person" posters for a Black woman named Sierra Coombs. 26 year old Coombs was reported missing by her family in Brooklyn, New York on June 5th, 2020. Coombs was found safely on July 13, 2020.
Black women who are reported missing are routinely ignored in news cycles. Without the aid of public awareness, families often struggle to find their loved ones. Although there are countless Black women whose names have not made it to social media, the circulation of Coombs name was widespread and may have resulted in her safe return to her family.

"George" and "Floyd" Pieces
George Perry Floyd (October 14, 1973 - May 25, 2020) was a 46-year-old Black American man who was murdered by former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin after Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for nearly 9 minutes in the Powderhorn neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25, 2020. Floyd’s murder sparked an international movement for Black Lives Matter, the largest civil rights movement of the century. On March 12, 2021, the city of Minneapolis agreed to pay $27 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit brought by Floyd's family. On June 25, 2021, Chauvin was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison for his crimes.
Four panels:
First is a piece with "George" in block letters and a crown on the "G".
Second is on a door, reading "Power In Community" with a heart and a peace sign.
Third is a throw up reading "Floyd" and "Rest In" with a peace sign.
Fourth is around the corner, with a round character and "BLM" underneath it.

When the Power of Love Overcomes the Love of Power
A wooden board is washed in ombre, moving from white to black. Twelve fists are raised in solidarity at varying heights. The text "when the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace" is painted on a white banner. This text is a quote from Jimi Hendrix. On the left side of the banner text reads "RIP G.F. 5.25.20."
