A Black soldier sits in the center of this mural behind a grey wash, his gaze penetrating the viewer. He wears a camo helmet with text saying, “war is hell.” The mural is split into two different times, 1970 (on the left) and 2020 (on the right). Red and green tubes flow from the man to different societal and political issues within each time period on their respective sides of the mural. On the left 1970’s side, grey washed text boxes read “end the war in Vietnam,” “equal equality,” and “civil rights.” The artist’s handles @sjk_171 and @mike_171 are also present. On the right 2020’s side, grey washed text boxes read “black lives matter,” “vote,” and “do the right thing.” The artist’s signatures “SJK 171” and “Mike 171” are present. The text uniting the two sides sit above and below the solider. The top text reads “S.O.S” and underneath “same old shit.” The bottom text reads “common-unity” and underneath “New York City.” This mural is a collaborative piece between two artists commenting on the similar political and societal issues black individuals face in American present and past.
This mural was created as part of the project Shared Freedom Protest Art 2020 which took place in the East Village section of Manhattan from September 13th- November 3rd.

Three wise monkeys embodying the Japanese proverbial principle “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” are front and center in this mural. Each monkey expresses a single principle using an action as well as accompanying text. The monkeys are painted in contrasting colors of blue and pink. The word “justice” is painted in large capital letters over the center monkey. From right to left, the monkey’s are labeled as “hear,” “see,” and “speak” with orange script. The “hear” monkey wears headphones personifying hearing through these. The “see” monkey wears a monocle and necklace with a crown bearing the text “see.” A crown necklace has various meanings though has been associated with George Floyd in other mural artwork. The “speak” monkey appears to be shouting the word “speak” through its opened mouth. All monkeys are highlighted with a dark wash on radiating from the bottom and pink and white highlighting strokes on the top. The artist’s handle @calichoart appears on the top right corner of the mural and the artist’s name “Calicho” is signed on the bottom left.
This mural was created as part of the project Shared Freedom Protest Art 2020 which took place in the East Village section of Manhattan from September 13th- November 3rd.

Description
An account of the resource
A candle memorial with pillows, a poster, markers, flowers, and images of Tamir Rice. Above the memorial is a cardboard sign reading "Happy Birthday Tamir Rice" in flowing script. Around the memorial are other signs such as "Defund and Divest" and piles of water bottles for protesters.
These were part of a month-long protest encampment at New York City's City Hall Park Area, organized by Vocal New York. The protesters lived and slept in front of the mayor office for one month, demanding that 1 billion dollars be removed from the New York City Police Department annual budget. During that month (June 22 - July 22, 2020) protesters defaced buildings, sidewalks, and subway entrances. Graffiti was a tool for their messages.
