Power To The People is painted in red, black, and white on the pavement. The "O" in Power is painted in red.
Detroit’s mural was planned, financed, designed, and created within one week, said Rochelle Riley, Director of Arts and Culture for the City of Detroit. The nonprofit Detroit Heals Detroit, which helps youth deal with trauma, approached Riley about creating a Black Lives Matter mural like other cities. Ten students from the group along with 10 other Detroit Public School students agreed to be judges on what the art should look like as well as select what artist would design the work.
The mural is funded by the Knight Foundation, Bedrock, Motor City Paint and Eastern Market Corp., Murals in the Market, General Motors, Mint Artist Guild and University Prep.

Description
An account of the resource
Black Lives Matter is painted in yellow on the pavement.
A statement from the Birmingham mayor's office explains that “The project developed after two people, who did not know each other, contacted the Mayor’s Office with the same idea. Cara McClure of Black Lives Matter Birmingham contacted Mayor Randall L. Woodfin with an interest to celebrate Juneteenth and honor activists/ foot soldiers. To do so, she would paint “Black Lives Matter’’ on a Birmingham street. McClure, however, was unaware that Birmingham mural artist, Shawn Fitzwater, had contacted the Mayor’s Office of Public Information also with an idea to duplicate the D.C. message.” The two concepts were merged to form the mural. A block near Railroad Park was selected as the space to display the intended message from both groups.

University of Minnesota Physicians Broadway Family Medicine Clinic; From the artist: "A family medical clinic in North Minneapolis was broken into in the aftermath of George Floyd's death. A friend of mine asked me to paint on the plywood doors. There were still tiny beads of glass in the cracks along the cement. I wanted to add a feminine as well as child's voice to the story, hence the lioness and cub."

Description
An account of the resource
A pale blue-grey wash provides the background for this piece, which demonstrates the cycle of metamorphosis in butterflies as a metaphor for change. Two black, white, and yellow caterpillars inch across an arching branch at the top of the piece, to enter a chrysalis on the leftmost part of the piece before becoming a vibrant red, orange, and yellow butterfly at the base of the work. Green leaves complete the cycle to the right of the butterfly.
Text underneath the arching branch reads: "No revolutionary change comes w/out telling the truth." The words "No..." and "...comes w/out telling the..." are painted in yellow, allowing the words "Revolutionary change" and "truth" to stand out in contrasting navy blue paint.
