Three Throw Ups: George, RIP, Floyd
George Perry Floyd (October 14, 1973 - May 25, 2020) was a 46-year-old Black American man who was murdered by former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin after Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for nearly 9 minutes in the Powderhorn neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25, 2020. Floyd’s murder sparked an international movement for Black Lives Matter, the largest civil rights movement of the century. On March 12, 2021, the city of Minneapolis agreed to pay $27 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit brought by Floyd's family. On June 25, 2021, Chauvin was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison for his crimes.
Three throw ups.

Second: Black bubble letters "RIP" with hearts above each letter. Paper with "BLACK LIVES MATTER" printed on it at the top and at the side. Characters at the bottom.
Third: Brown bubble letters "Floyd!" with light brown spots. Two more "BLACK LIVES MATTER" paged and another page with the image of George Floyd on it.

Below text are nine pages of paper with "STOP MURDERING PEOPLE OF COLOR." Six have been defaced: three with brown spray-paint covering the word "Murdering" and three completely spray-painted over. The result is three pages reading "Stop People of Color."
Beneath these pages is a red painted "REFORM" and black inked text reading "Is Impossible!" The latter has been completely spray-painted over while "Reform" and been crossed out with pen.

This board is in the collection of Save the Boards | Memorialize the Movement. On March 8 2021, this board was used in an art action coordinated by Memorialize the Movement in collaboration with Visual Black Justice. Three boards were selected for an installation outside of the Hennepin County Court House on the opening day of jury selection in the trial of Derek Chauvin.
